Year-End Report - 2015

Used year to Date:  205.18 yards
Added Year to Date:  40.25 yards

Net Stash Decrease for 2015:   164.93 yards

I quilted 12 quilts on the LongarmUFO list.

I pieced 9 quilts from my UFO/NewFO quilt top A and B lists; I pieced 12 quilts that were on my "unplanned" C list.  That made a total of 21 new pieced tops.

I also completed a few projects from my Machine Embroidery/Embroidery/Crochet/Decorative Painting UFO lists--but not nearly enough!

I'm looking forward to 2016--a new year, a clean slate, lots of projects to do!  Happy New Year to all.

Just a Sunday morning update...

What fun--I just went back and started reading some of my past blog posts.   Have you done that with your blogs?  I found that I enjoyed those blogs that showed pictures of what I accomplished more than the posts that just talked about what I was working on.  And I liked reading some of the non-Stash Report posts that reminded me of what was happening that year.  So, I'll try to be better about posting pictures--yes, I still have my husband taking the pictures and will continue that routine.  I also liked reading comments left by other stash reporters--I will try to do better on leaving comments for others, too.  I only read the first 6 months of 2012, so I have quite a few left to read.  I used 222 3/4 yards of fabric in 2012!  I won't match that this year, but I didn't have as much yardage coming in either.

The sad but revealing thing I learned is that I still haven't quilted the tops I made way back in 2012!  I guess that will have to become a priority this year, instead of just being listed as a goal!!  I told my doctor this year that I needed to live 3 1/2 more years, and he asked me why--because I need that long to quilt all the tops I have waiting in my Longarm UFO list!!  There are just too many tops added to my bucket list--too many tops that I "just can't wait to see how they look" when they are pieced!!

And we have seen "my" mountain goats for the last 3 weeks--I love those goats!  They always look so pristine, unlike domestic sheep who often look like they haven't cleaned their posterior ends!  And those daddy goats never hesitate to chastise the little ones if they get out of line.  One goat was down licking salt off the highway when we went to Mass last night--I so hope none get run over.

Today I will make some quick breads and candy, start on a Christmas letter (yes, I still do a letter summarizing our year--even though a lot of people feel negative about them) and cards, and maybe get a tree up.  It is interesting to read through our past Christmas letters--a chronology of our family history!  I guess I like receiving those letters in cards (maybe that's why I still write them!)--a glimpse into what has happened in our friends' lives during the year.  Christmas cards become fewer each year, and may be a thing of the past soon.  I think I'm living in the wrong era!!  And now on to the day!

STASH REPORT - WEEK 48-49, 2015 (11/28-12/5/15)

Used this Period: 34.76 yards

Used year to Date:  205.18 yards
Added Year to Date:  40.25 yards

Net Stash Decrease for 2015:   164.93 yards

I've been working on panels for the past 2 weeks--not sure why I see so many panels that I can't resist, but they sure seem to hop into my cart!  Three I have gifted--2 to my long-distance quilting partner (she's not sure whether she is appreciative or not!) and 1 to a senior quilter who lives here in the Valley (I told her she can add borders and give it to her granddaughter for Christmas!).  That is 3 yards gifted.

I finished a Santa panel/yardage that I cut into individual blocks and made into a lap-sized quilt.  There were 9 santas in 1.5 yards of fabric; total used:  8 yards.  I finished a panel with a moose fishing; total yards used:  4.67.  I finished a "country" autumn panel; total yards used:  6.5 yards.  All of these yardages include backing and binding.

I also cut out 5 more funky chicks; that used 1/4 yard.

I finished a Nancy Halverson Christmas panel; total yards used:  6'7".  I also finished a Nancy Halverson "12 Days of Christmas" panel; total yards used:  6'5".

Now I'd better clean up my sewing room and decorate for Christmas--my son & family will be here in 2 weeks and I still have baking, cards, decorating, etc. to do!

STASH REPORT - WEEK 43-47, 2015 (10/24-11/21/15)

Used this Period: 19.67 yards
Added this Period: 0 yards

Used year to Date:  170.42 yards
Added Year to Date:  40.25 yards

Net Stash Decrease for 2015:   130.17 yards

I finished a crocheted rug (made with cloth strips 1.25" wide) that I started a couple of years ago.  I'm not sure I will make another one, but it was a good experience to make one.  And a finish is a finish!  I didn't count the yardage used.

I also finished the wildlife quilt I will give my son for Christmas--just need to get it on the longarm and quilt it.  This was another of those "quilting from stash challenges" that are becoming the story of my quilting experiences.  I was gifted (by my quilting friend) with the wildlife panel and a second panel that was missing 2 of the large animals, and we decided it would be our challenge quilt.  She made a bargello quilt that included blank spaces for the animals--and then started a second quilt that is a version of a log cabin.  I did the log cabin, as shown.  We both were using leftover fabric from our Northwoods quilts.  Anyway, I got 6 sets of 4 log cabin blocks with the medium brown Moda fabric--and then ran out.  I couldn't match the brown (of course!) so I made the next 6 blocks with a light tan (which looks cream in the pictures).  I used the large applique animals in the medium brown blocks, and used 2 of the smaller applique animals in 4 of the light tan blocks and 1 each of the smaller applique animals in the "half" sets.  (I was reminded of how much I hate doing the blanket stitch around narrow angles!)  I hope to use 2 of the remaining large applique animals on a set of shams to match the quilt--and will send the other 2 back to Sandi in case she wants to make shams.  I found a piece of fabric large enough for the backing (I do have a stash of large yardages!) that features pine cones.  The quilt is 85 x 109--and I do have enough of some of the fabrics to make shams!!  This quilt used 19 2/3 yards (which includes the panels)--a real boost to my "out" numbers!!

STASH REPORT - WEEK 42, 2015 (10/17/15)

Used this Period: 0 yards
Added this Period: 3 yards

Used year to Date: 150.75 yards
Added Year to Date: 40.25 yards

Net Stash Decrease for 2015:  110.5 yards

I have half of the blocks made for my Call of the Wild challenge quilt--and then I ran out of the light fabric I was using for the light logs!  I guess I have to be thankful that I got all the "big" animal blocks made.  Now I'm trying to decide how I will make the "small" animal blocks ("big" and "small" according to the size of the appliques).  I have taken my scrap of fabric to all the fabric stores that I have available, and none of them have fabric that is the same shade.  Anyway, I have purchased 3 yards of a lighter shade of brown and will change my layout a bit to accommodate the change--at least, that is what I think I will do.

This week has been a bust as far as getting any sewing time.  We went to our near big city on Monday so I could try to match my fabric.  Then we had a potluck dinner and the funeral of a good friend to attend.  I hope I have more sewing time this coming week.

STASH REPORT - WEEK 41, 2015 (10/10/15)

Used this Period: 8.5 yards
Added this Period: 0 yards

Used year to Date: 150.75 yards
Added Year to Date: 37.25 yards

Net Stash Decrease for 2015:  113.5 yards

Another finish!  I used the leftover blocks from the red/white single Irish Chain that I put together in August, added some blocks, and made a twin-sized quilt top.  I'm now caught up on quilts that were started but not completed--feels good.  That means I'll soon be able to start on the "challenge quilt" that Sandi and I do each year.  After we get back from our road trip this week (I finished this top before we left so I could have some numbers to report!), I hope I will begin making the I-phone cases and snap purses for our Thanksgiving Bazaar--hope I don't listen to the siren song of the next quilt!

Later in the Week:

I listened to the siren song and started the challenge quilt instead of making items for the bazaar.  I have one set of 4 log cabin blocks put together and the animal (an elk) attached with sulky thread and a blanket stitch--and really like it.  I have an additional 5 blocks made--only 39 more to make!!  I think this will take a few weeks to finish.

The road trip was good--and it was good to have a few hours with our son.  We have one more trip to make before winter sets in.
